I Love You, I'm Trying is the second studio album by Canadian-American musician Grandson. Two lead singles[1][2] were released along with an announcement[3] in anticipation of the album. The singles were released February 28, 2023 and March 24, 2023, respectively. The album was released May 5, 2023 via Fueled by Ramen.

Background

2 years after the release of grandson's debut studio album, Death of an Optimist, in February 2023, he began teasing a new lead single, lyrics and the album.[4] Later on February 28, 2023, he released the single titled ”Eulogy”, as well as announcing a tour set for May 12, 2023,[5] just a week after the album's release date. This track would go in depth to explain the overwhelming situations of life on the internet. Later in March 2023, he released the second lead single Drones and announced the release date of May 5, 2023 and cover art of the album.[6] He later then announces via Instagram that there will be another single released in April 2023, which the single titled ”Something To Hide” reflecting on his family life and personal relationships, released April 21, 2023.[7]

Critical reception

On June 23, Alternative Press published an unranked list of the top 25 albums of the year to date and included this release, calling it "a foray into the personal".[8]
