The Institute for Complex Adaptive Matter (ICAM) is an international multicampus collective of scientists studying emergent phenomena in biology, chemistry and physics and in wider context. ICAM was founded in 1999 at the University of California by Nobel laureate Robert B. Laughlin and physicist David Pines and since 2004 has received funding from the National Science Foundation.
