The Media Centre Huddersfield

The Huddersfield Media Centre is a business centre and a community of digital, media and creative enterprises in the West Yorkshire town of Huddersfield, England, with 121 serviced office spaces and 21 live/work studio flats located in four buildings sometimes called the Creative Quarter. It offers IT support, meeting and conference rooms and an extensive creative programme.[1]

History

Old buildings in Northumberland Street

The Media Centre opened its doors in 1995. The first building was on Northumberland Street, Huddersfield, with only a third of it in use when the centre opened. The success of the first companies based in the centre and their rapid expansion needs meant that by 2000 the building was converted and full of media businesses. Its second building was opened in November 2001, this is located immediately adjacent to the main Media Centre building opposite the old Open Market. These new offices were designed by Bauman-Lyons architects and provide a range of studio and office spaces.

New office block

In 2002, the Creative Lofts were opened by Rt. Hon. Nigel Griffiths, Minister for Small Business. The Lofts provide live-work spaces for the Creative Industries and are managed by Media Centre Network. The Lofts are located in a former Mechanics Institution building, that can be connected to Huddersfield University. In 2009 a hot desking space called Connect was opened in the former Media Lounge gallery.

Events

The Media Centre also organises number of events which are designed to stimulate and encourage creativity, present creative work or enable networking.[citation needed]
