The Agreeable Surprise is a 1781 comic opera to music by Samuel Arnold and a libretto by John O'Keeffe. The work in two acts was first performed at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket (London), on 3 September 1781.[1]

It was one of the most performed works of its kind in London in the last quarter of the 18th century.[2]

Plot

Eugene and Laura love each other and want to be together, but Sir Felix, Laura's father, insists in marrying her with someone else. But at the end the father reveals that he was just teasing them.
