Matti Kullervo Seppälä (born 5 September 1941 in Vaasa) is a Finnish geomorphologist specialized in cold climate aeolian processes.[1] Seppälä is arguably the foremost expert on palsas.[2] Seppälä obtained a Ph.D. at the University of Turku in 1971 and moved after to work at the University of Oulu until in 1978 he moved to the University of Helsinki.[3] He served at that university as professor from 1978 to 2009[4] and is currently a retired professor of physical geography at that university.[2][4]

Matti Seppälä has also been a research fellow at Uppsala University, Heidelberg University, Université de Montréal, University of Cambridge and Durham University.[4]
