Self portrait (c. 1854)

Nicholas Joseph Crowley (1819–1857) was an Irish genre and portrait painter. He was highly esteemed as a portrait painter, and was especially good in painting portrait groups.

Born in Ireland, Crowley originally lived in Belfast. His picture 'The Eventful Consultation,' was exhibited in London in 1835. After that, Crowley's works were frequently shown in the Royal Academy Exhibitions.

In 1838, Crowley was elected a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. That same year, he moved to London.

Crowley died in 1857.
