Utting is a surname with several origins. In some cases it is a Jewish surname from Germany, It was used by the first Jewish / Christian people that settled in Utting am Ammersee before they relocated to other areas of Germany and eastern Europe. Some of the settlers that left Utting am Ammersee for Poland, Russia and Lithuania also changed the name to "Utinski" or "Utinsky". The different endings of "ski" and "sky" simply depended on the region. (Hebrew- אוטינסקי). Through the years of migration and the changing of languages, the surname "Utting" can also be linked to the surname "Etting". This is a very popular surname amongst Jewish people, especially in the Philadelphia area.
