The Yangmingtan Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning 250 metres (820 ft) over the Songhua River in Harbin, China.

A part of the newly inaugurated 15-kilometre-long (9.3 mi) bridge spanning the Songhua River collapsed on August 24, 2012 at 5 am killing 3 people and injuring 2 others.[1] Problems seem to have occurred with the weight of trucks using the bridge. The bridge was design to handle 55 tons. But the combine weight of heavy trucks with at least 500 tons of weight cause the bridge to collapse. This was blamed mostly for the construction design since the project was finished too quickly and permission of weight being allowed on the bridge by traffic controllers.[2]
