Intrapulmonary percussive ventilators (IPV) are machines which deliver short bursts of air through a mouthpiece to help individuals with lung disease clear sputum. The air is delivered at a rate of approximately 150 pulses per minute and may be used with nebulized medication. IPV is used to assist individuals with cystic fibrosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease), emphysema, and other such lung ailments.
