Shemuel Yeivin

Shmuel Yeivin (Hebrew: שמואל ייבין) (September 2, 1896 - February 28, 1982) was an Israeli archaeologist.

Biography

Yeivin was born in 1896 in Odessa, in the Jewish Pale of Settlement in the Russian Empire (now in Ukraine). He emigrated to Ottoman Palestine in 1905.

He was the inaugural Director of the Israeli Department of Antiquities, holding the position from the foundation of the Department on July 26, 1948, until 1961.
