Samuel Whittingham (1884 – after 1910) was an English footballer who played for Stoke, Burslem Port Vale, Crewe Alexandra, Blackpool, and Huddersfield Town. He was the elder brother of Bob Whittingham.
Playing career
Whittingham played for Goldenhill Wanderers and Stoke, before joining Burslem Port Vale in August 1903.[1] He played seven Second Division games in the 1903–04 season.[1] He scored three goals in 31 league games in the 1904–05 season, bagging his first goal in the Football League on 17 December, in a 2–1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers at the Athletic Ground; he later claimed goals in 2–0 home wins over Grimsby Town and Doncaster Rovers in March.[1] He played 31 league games in the 1905–06 campaign, but was transferred to Crewe Alexandra in the summer 1906.[1] He later also played for Blackpool, Huddersfield Town (playing one FA Cup game in the 1910–11 season), and Mirfield United.
