Research on Armenian Architecture (RAA) NGO (Foundation since 2010) was established in Aachen, Germany, in 1982 by Dr. Armen Hakhnazarian although in fact, it had been unfolding its activities since the late 1960s. RAA USA was founded in 1996, and RAA Armenia in 1998. The head of RAA-Armenia is Samvel Karapetian.

Activities

The purpose of Research on Armenian Architecture (RAA) is to investigate and document Armenian monuments located outside the borders of the present-day Armenia, namely in Historical Armenia (the Armenian districts of Turkey, Iran, Georgia and Azerbaijan). The Foundation also carries out studies in Diasporan Armenian settlements in Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, India, Russia, etc. In the course of its research activities, RAA has acquired a rich database of 380,000 digital images, measurements, plans, maps, archive materials, etc., which have become the basis of numerous scientific works intended not only for Armenians but also for the international community.
