Mother Hubbard can have different, probably related, meanings:

  • Old Mother Hubbard is a nursery rhyme.
  • Mother Hubbard (dress) is a dress from the South Seas.
  • A Mother Hubbard was another name for a camelback steam locomotive.
  • Mother Hubbard Clause, a legal term of art, which clause’s purpose is to “cover all” possibilities of pertinent variance in a given written record. More precisely, the term is applicable to mortgage contracts, oil-and-gas contracts, and, in a broader sense, to a court’s written ruling.
