William T. Joynes (1817–1874) was an American politician and jurist.

Biography

Joynes was born in Accomack County, Virginia in 1817. After finishing his education, he settled in Petersburg in 1839 to practice law. He was appointed United States District Attorney.

In 1863, during the American Civil War, Joynes was elected judge of the First Judicial District in the Confederate establishment, where he remained until the end of the war. In the fall of 1865, he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates to represent Petersburg and Dinwiddie County.[1] During the following session in 1866, he was elected to the Virginia Court of Appeals. Because of ill health, Joynes resigned from the court in 1873 and died the following year.
