Joannes Philippus Spalthoven
Joannes Philippus Spalthoven, or Spalthof (c. 1680, Antwerp – c. 1722, Antwerp), was a Flemish Baroque painter.
Biography
According to Houbraken he was a contemporary of Jasper Broers who specialized in historical allegories with animals, but also made many scenes of Italianate vegetable markets (Dutch: Italiaansche Groenmarkten).[1] He made a pilgrimage to Rome by foot three times.[1]
According to the RKD his birth and death dates are unknown, but from dated works his period of production has been established as 1700-1722.[2] His landscapes show the influence of Nicolaes Pietersz Berchem.[2]
