Gomti Chakra
Gomti Chakra, literally 'A war-quoit of Gomti', is the operculum of a kind of rare sea snail in the family Turbinidae.[1][2][3] One place these opercula are found is in the Gomti River, Dwarka, hence the name. The word Chakra is from the Sanskrit, meaning "wheel". These objects are considered sacred by Hindus, giving wealth, health, and success. Gomti Chakra are also believed to give protection for children.[4][5][3]
Etymology
Gomti refers to the river where it is found and chakra means a war-quoit.[1][6] It is also known as Cats 's eye shell, Naag-Chakra or Cows 's eye shell.[5][6]
Usage
Gomti Chakra is also used in jewellery. It was used by the ancient Celts and Greeks also.[3]
Religious importance
It is considered holy by Hindus.[5][7] It is believed to give protection for children.[4][5][3]
