Alex Mendez (born September 6, 2000) is an American soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Jong Ajax.
Club career
Mendez made his professional debut for USL Championship club LA Galaxy II in a 1–0 win against Orange County SC on August 3, 2017 coming on as a 34th-minute substitute for Andre Ulrich Zanga.[1]
On October 23, 2018, Mendez announced that he had signed a professional contract for the Bundesliga club SC Freiburg in Germany.[2]
On July 30, 2019, Mendez was signed by Ajax on a three-year deal.[3]
International career
Mendez is playing for the United States Men's National Team U-20 squad, although he remains eligible to play for Mexico.[4]
On November 21, 2018, Mendez scored both goals as USA defeated Mexico 2–0 in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship. He then participated heavily in the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. Later in 2019, he was called up to a United States U23 camp in preparation for Olympic qualifying.[5]
