The 1976 Nicholls State Colonels football team represented Nicholls State University in the 1976 NCAA Division II football season. The Colonels were led by third-year head coach Bill Clements. They played their home games at John L. Guidry Stadium and were a member of the Gulf South Conference. They finished the season 4–6–1, 2–6–1 in Gulf South play.

Previous season

The Colonels finished the season 8–2, 7–2 in Gulf South play to finish in first place.
