Matthew Ryan Oberst Jr. (c. 1974 – 2016) was an American musician and school teacher, a frontman and a songwriter from Sorry About Dresden.[1]
Biography
He was born on January 3, 1974 in Omaha, Nebraska, he was the oldest of 3 sons, his youngest brother is singer songwriter Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes.[2] He graduated from Creighton Prep and Creighton University. Living in North Carolina, he found another Nebraska transplant, Matt Tomich, and the duo started Sorry About Dresden with Eric Roehrig and James Hepler, where he was a member since 1996.[3] He is also listed as helping with the creation/production of a few Bright Eyes albums, and a few albums released under Saddle Creek Records. He was also a longtime English teacher at Sterling Montessori School.[4] He died in his home on November 27, 2016 in Cary, North Carolina at the age of 42.[5]
Personal life
He had two children, John and Annabelle Oberst.
