Legend Press is an independent British book publisher founded in 2005 by Tom Chalmers. Specialising in mainstream trade paperback fiction, Legend Press became the youngest-run publisher in the UK trade market. In 2006, the company set out its intention to double the number of titles it publishes each year until reaching 20–25 in 2009. As well as the range of novels, London-based Legend Press also began an annual short story series looking to boost the popularity of short fiction and make it more aligned to today's reader and society.
In 2010 they published books including Dave Cameron's Schooldays by Bill Coles and The Sky is Changing by Zoe Jenny[1] and launched Legend Business [1] and took on management for the BOOKS etc. website.
In 2011, they were shortlisted for the Independent Publisher of the Year. They have since released best-selling books, by authors such as Ruth Dugdall, whose novel The Sacrificial Man sold 45,000 copies.[citation needed]
Founder
Chalmers set-up Legend Press in 2005 and, aged 25, became the youngest Managing Director of a publishing company in the mainstream UK market.[citation needed] In March 2007, founder and Managing Director Tom Chalmers was shortlisted for the inaugural UK Young Publisher of the Year Award.[2]
In October 2007 Chalmers was shortlisted for the Young Music Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The annual award is part of the Real Business/CBI Growing Business Awards.
