About

Waxy is an American stoner rock band from the Desert of Southern California (Palm Springs / Palm Desert / Indio), and is part of the Palm Desert Scene. The power trio consists of frontman Robbie Waldman (guitar/vocals), Tyler Ontiveros (drums) and Robert Bowman (bass). Brett Stadler, long time personal friend of Waldman, is the band's eccentric co-lyricyst as well as a published poet. WAXY’s sound is a cross between Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy with a healthy dose of Tom Waits. Heavy, sexy and sincere best describe the vibe. Some people describe them as Desert Rock…Europeans call it Stoner Rock.

History

The boys grew up surrounded by the greatest hard rock legends of the California Desert. Without Any eXplanation whY, retro-infused throwback musicians decided to mix amped-up raw stylings of garage rock with a healthy dose of classic psychedelia to create something fierce.

Filled with a revolving cast of musicians full of power and originality that is constantly changing, developing and evolving, Waxy has been performing and making records since 2005.

Following their 2005 self-titled debut, 2007 saw the release of their second effort Chainsaw Holiday, which featured guest appearances by Alfredo Hernández, Jesse Hughes and John Garcia.

Things really got going with the release of their album Without Any eXplanation whY.' Many guest musicians including Jessie Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal, Desert Sessions) John Garcia (Kyuss, Slo Burn and Hermano) Alfredo Hernandez (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age) Ed Mundell (Monster Magnet) Gary Arce (Yawning Man, Fatso Jetson) Mario Lalli (Fatso Jetson and Yawning Man) and Zac Rae (Alanis Morrisette, Macy Gray) were involved.

Since then WAXY hooked up with Cobraside for their distribution and have been touring ever since.

WAXY's latest album titles ‘Betting On Forgetting’. Guest musicians include, Nick Oliveri, John Garcia, Ronnie King, Sean Wheeler, Steve Feldman and the usual cast of local talent. Created were 11 tracks of heart and soul.

Touring

WAXY has been on club tours up and down the West Coast of the US and toured around Europe as well as Canada.

In 2007, WAXY was lucky enough to open for Brant Bjork and the Bros (formerly of Kyuss) in Munich to a sold-out crowd.

In September 2008 WAXY got invited to open for VolBeat on a three-week sold-out tour with much success.

WAXY also toured with Kyuss Lives! in March of 2012, again to sold out performances.

Wino of Saint Vitus and Spirit Caravan asked the band to join them for 4 shows on the West Coast in 2014.

The band was in Toronto in 2013 for NxNE and Canadian Music Week in 2014. Following that WAXY played 4 shows in Australia with John Garcia.

To promote the Betting on Forgetting album, Waxy played several local gigs in the California Desert, as well as in Europe. This 2019 club tour involved multiple shows in Belgium, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy and Spanish Basque Country, before heading on to Canada to play more shows in Toronto.
