Beijing Business School was founded in 1950, and was one of the primary colleges established by the Chinese government to train students in economics and management. It was once attached to the Ministry of Internal Trade that is now known as the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

The School was one of the first colleges possessing the authority to grant students a master's degree. In 1996, Beijing Business School and Beijing Light Industry School combined to become the Beijing Technology and Business University.
