This is a small, brown variegated neotropical nightjar, 22.5 cm (8.9 in) in length. It is known only from a single specimen of a male. The upperparts are greyish-brown, and it the crown and nape are broadly streaked blackish-brown. A narrow, indistinct tawny collar can be seen on the hindneck. The wing-coverts are greyish-brown heavily spotted buff; the scapulars are blackish-brown, broadly edged buff. There are large white patched on either side of lower throat. The buff underparts are heavily barred brown.
