A wolfhound is a dog trained to hunt wolves. (See Wolf hunting with dogs)

It may also refer to the Irish Wolfhound. It should not be confused with wolfdogs, dogs incorporating wolf ancestry.

"Wolfhounds" are also generally distinct from livestock guardian dogs, dog breeds which, although bred in part to protect livestock and sheep from predators such as wolves, are usually not used to actually track down or hunt wolves.
