North Island Challenge Stakes is a thoroughbred horse race in New Zealand. It is run at Trentham Racecourse, Wellington, New Zealand over a sprint distance of 7 furlongs (1400m).

The race is not currently a group or listed race but is notable as historically being won by many great New Zealand racehorses of the time, including Gloaming and Desert Gold, considered along with Phar Lap as the country's three greats.[1] New Zealand hall of famers Gloaming and Kindergarten each won the race three times.[2]

Other winners were Grey Way, Show Gate, Panzer Chief, Star Belle, Yahabeebe, Coleridge, Defaaulter and Somerset Fair.
