Wasserauen is a place in the district of Schwende in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden in Switzerland.

The settlement consists of only a few farms and occurs otherwise only through the station and the cable car station of the cable car Wasserauen-Ebenalp and the excursion parking lot in appearance.

Wasserauen is the end point of the Gossau SG-Wasserauen railway line of the Appenzell railway as well as the valley station of a cable car that leads to the Alpstein belonging Ebenalp.

The Wasserauen are the landing pad for paragliders starting from the Ebenalp and starting point for hikes to the Seealpsee, the Ebenalp, to Äscher, Wildkirchli and Säntis.

The Seealpsee-Wasserauen small hydropower plant supplies around ten percent of Inner Rhoden with environmentally friendly electricity. After its commissioning in 1905, electric light burnt in Appenzell for the first time.
