Olimpiu G. Urcan (born 1977) is a Singapore-based historian, author, journalist, and chess player. [1] A medievalist scholar, he has contributed history-related articles to a number of chess magazines and has authored several biographies of forgotten chess masters. His research is mainly focused on American chess history, and he specializes in largely-forgotten chess experts, with emphasis on immigrants.

Between 2009 and 2015 Urcan ran a monthly chess history column at the ChessCafe.com website.[2] He is a regular contributor to Edward Winter's Chess Notes.
