Kizhakku Africavil Raju (transl. Raju is in East Africa) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language 3D animated action-adventure film based on the legacy of late veteran actor turned politician M. G. Ramachandran, written and directed by M. Arulmoorthy. The film has been bankrolled jointly by Vels Film International and Prabhu Deva Studios.[1][2] The film stars MGR as an animated 3D character with Sayyesha Saigal and Akshara Gowda in other important roles.[3][4] The film is a sequel to MGR's 1973 science fiction film, Ulagam Sutrum Valiban. Principal photography started in January 2018. D. Imman has been roped into compose music for the film while lyrics are penned by Vairamuthu.[5]

Cast

Production

The film was voluntarily planned to be produced by Ishari K. Ganesh jointly with Prabhu Deva with the ceremonial launch of the film held during January 2018 with the auspices of Kamal Haasan & Rajinikanth and the film started shooting in the same month.[7][8] The film titled Kizhakku Africavil Raju was proposed by late actor MGR during 1970's as a sequel to his sci fiction film Ulagam Sutrum Valiban and the original story of the film was noted to have planned in 1977, but the project never came to fruition when he was alive as he was busy with his political commitments.[6][1] The sequel to Ulagam Sutrum Valiban is made with a different script after 40 years since its release.

The director revealed that the film began to progress mainly due to the beauty of the title offered by M. G. Ramachandran and the freedom offered by producer Ishari Ganesh for the cost of production who is also known close to family of MGR. The producer of the film Ganesh revealed that the film will be a tribute to both legendary MGR and to his late father Isari Velan who was known to have acted with the actor turned politician in over 30 films.[6]

Marketing

The official teaser of the film was unveiled on 16 July 2018.[9]
