St. Mary's Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Badulla.[1] It was established on 13 September 1881. Annual feast is 2nd Sunday of October. Current church is built by Rev. Fr. Peter Farina, OSB in 1950s.[2]

St. Mary's Cathedral featured on 15 rupees worth of postal Christmas stamps were issued by the Sri Lankan government in 2009.[3]
