In addition to the alternative rock that is normally played on The Spy, the station also broadcasts over 20 weekly programs dedicated to particular musical genres, including rockabilly, soul, techno, reggae, red dirt, New Wave, garage rock, all-vinyl, and more.
History
In 1998, Ferris O'Brien took over as the Program Director at 93.7 The Spy (KSPI-FM in Stillwater). When station owners took The Spy off the air in 2001, Ferris secured ownership of the brand and moved it to Oklahoma City.[1]
In 2002, Citadel Communications launched a deep alternative format radio station (KSYY) and asked Ferris to take the helm. The station was killed in June 2004, but Ferris kept “Spy Radio” on the air as a once weekly specialty show on KATT 100.5 The Katt.[2]
In 2009, Ferris purchased 105.3FM from Citadel and relaunched The Spy. When that purchase agreement feel through in December 2010, he took the station completely digital at thespyfm.com.[3]
In 2012, The Spy and KOSU established a new partnership that allowed The Spy to return to the FM dial.[4]
In 2017, The Spy launched a podcast platform in August with their first show Localites OKC. Localites OKC is a weekly podcast hosted by Anna Farha and Kayla Coffey discussing local events and happenings. New episodes are released every Thursday. [5] In October, OKC OVER EASY joined the podcast network as the second podcast. OKC OVER EASY is hosted by Malory Craft and releases new episodes on Sundays.
