Baptism of Christ (Annibale Carracci)

Baptism of Christ is a 1585 oil on canvas painting by Annibale Carracci. It was his second public commission after his 1583 Crucifixion and the only altarpiece he produced before moving to Rome which is still in its original location. It is the first evidence of his rediscovery of Correggio between 1584 and 1587^[1].

It was commissioned in 1583 by Giacomo Canobbi, professor of law at the University of Bologna, for his chapel at the church of Santi Gregorio e Siro and completed in 1585, the year he was licensed.^[2]. It still hangs there.
