Aigio railway station[2][3] (Greek: Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Αιγίου, romanizedSidirodromikos Stathmos Aigiou) is a railway station in Aigio in northern Peloponnese, Greece. Since June 2020, it is served by trains to Kiato railway station.[4] The station is located in the suburbs of the town, 2km from the town's centre.

History

The station was built in 2015 and it is going to serve as the main railway station for trains connecting Aigio with Athens and Patras. On 17 April 2019 the Greek Minister of Infrastructure, Christos Spirtzis, launched the test run on the new double-track Kiato-Aigio rail section, part of the new Corinth – Patras line.[5] After 8 years of suspension[6], railway traffic will be resumed when train tests will be completed. According to ERGOSE officials and the minister Spirtzis, this is expected to happen before September 2019.[7] In January 2020 it was announced that the operation of the line Kiato - Aigio was scheduled for April 2020, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic the inauguration ceremony was postponed for June 2020.[8] The electrification of the line Kiato - Aigio is scheduled to start soon and to be finished in 2 years. Until then TrainOSE will use diesel trains.

Facilities

The station will be equipped with waiting rooms, shelters and a cafe. There is also expected to be a staffed ticket office. The station will be equipped with toilets.

Services

The specific train schedules will be announced by TrainOSE shortly.
