Kavin is an Indian actor, who has appeared in Tamil language films and television serials. After beginning his career in Star Vijay as a television actor, he gained fame after playing the lead role in the second season of Saravanan Meenatchi. He has subsequently moved on to acting in films, and notably appeared in Sathriyan (2017), Natpuna Ennanu Theriyuma (2019) and Bigg Boss Tamil 3 (2019).

Career

While completing his education at Loyola College, Kavin was keen to engage in an acting career and attended auditions with Star Vijay. His first appearance in television serials was through the college version of Kana Kaanum Kaalangal, where he appeared as a student. Later on, he continued working on Star Vijay, appearing in supporting roles in the serials Thayumanavan and in Saravanan Meenatchi. He subsequently had an opportunity to be part of the second season of Saravanan Meenatchi, and during the course of the show, his character of Vettaiyan went through a character arc, and ended the show as the main lead. He won positive critical acclaim his performance, and later won the Vijay Television Awards for Favourite Actor Male for 2015.[1][2] Following the end of the series, Kavin opted not to act in any more television serials and stated his intentions of breaking into the Tamil film industry.[3]

Kavin signed on to play a full length supporting role in S. R. Prabhakaran's Sathriyan (2017) and the lead role in Natpuna Ennanu Theriyuma (2019) during late 2016. Prior to these films, he appeared in small, insignificant roles in Karthik Subbaraj's Pizza (2012) and Ravikumar's Indru Netru Naalai (2015).[4][5] Sathriyan, featuring Vikram Prabhu and Manjima Mohan, eventually opened to mixed reviews and Kavin's role as a doctor opposite Aishwarya Dutta in the film also was met with a mixed response.[6][7] Natpuna Ennanu Theriyuma saw him associate with director Shiva Aravind, whom he became acquainted with during his stint with Star Vijay. The pair developed the script together over time and chose to make it into a feature film following Kavin's successful stint as the lead actor in television serials.[8][9] In the film, he portrayed one amongst a group of three friends, whose life changes after meeting the film's lead actress, played by Remya Nambeesan. The film went through several delays as the producer was keen to have a wide release across Tamil Nadu.[10] The film was ultimately released in 2019 to mixed reviews.[11][12] In 2019, Kavin appeared on Star Vijay's Bigg Boss Tamil 3 reality television show hosted by Kamal Haasan.[13]. Kavin is pairing with Amritha Aiyer for his second venture as a lead and the movie is being directed by Vineeth Varaprasad and is titled Lift.[14]
