P.C.T is a London-based independent recording artist/producer who produces hip-hop/rap music (with some electronic influences).[1] "P" has released numerous singles, freestyles, an EP and performed around Greater London.

History

Early life

Growing up in London, England, P.C.T first took up music as a hobby during his time at primary school, where he took lessons in playing both the recorder and the guitar (in addition to occasionally writing songs of his own).

After primary school (and having always been more enthusiastic about football), "P" fell back into music as it was the only school class that still had places available when he arrived late on GCSE subject selection day. Nonetheless, it was here that 'P' was formally introduced to composing and writing songs. Making music eventually grew from being a mere hobby into a passion.

Formation

After noticing a lack of originality in the work of some popular hip hop acts, P began to write and perform his own hip hop songs. After developing his music industry knowledge via some part-time work as a roadie/A&R for a popular DJ, P continued to develop as a producer before studying music/film/business at university, after which he established the independent record label DMR.

DMR Era

P's first "freestyle"/unofficial promotional single, "You Know What to Do", was never released although it was played by various DJs on numerous underground radio stations during winter 2004. His second unofficial promo single, "Danger Money Black Gang Shine" (a collaboration with local producer Poppa Sprinkle) was also never released, although it was played by various DJs on both underground and commercial radio stations (including DJ 279 and Phoebe One on Choice FM, Dan Greenpeace on XFM and others). The track was also played at nightclubs in Leicester Square / London during Summer 2005.

P's third promo single, "Block to the Bar", a collaboration with local producers Dnyce and Strategy, was played by various DJs on a number of underground radio stations after its release on 28 March 2006.

P's fourth promo single, "Life Is a Gift" (a collaboration with Liverpool artists Defiance, Young Kof and Pyro), was played on stations such as BBC Radio 1Xtra and numerous underground stations, further to being released as a free download via all featured artists' Myspace pages in summer 2006.

P's first official single, "Here We Go (Finally)" was released on 7 May 2007 and the promotional music video for it was played on Sky channels such as Channel U and BEN Television.

P's second single, "Keep It Gully (v.2)", released on 14 January 2008, was played on commercial radio stations by DJs such as Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 (it was also played by other DJs on various underground stations).[2]

P's third single, the June 2008 release "Shooting Star", was played on commercial stations such as BBC Radio 1Xtra, as well as various underground ones too.

P's fourth single, "Drift Away", was given a limited release from 12 July 2010 (a month after The Digital Lyrical Miracle EP it appeared on) until 14 October 2015 (a legal battle is being fought to have it removed from sale by a German digital distributor that breached its contract with DMR).

P's fifth single, "Bubbles Go Bang", released on 21 November 2011, was broadcast on commercial stations such as Kiss, further to which its video was also aired on television channels such as The Box UK and Virgin TV.[3]

P's sixth single, "My Desire", was released on 20 February 2012, and was played on commercial stations such as Kiss, further to which its video was also aired on television stations such as Kiss TV.[4]

P has appeared in publications such as RWD (2010), Touch magazine (2007), What's Poppin (2006), Invincible Magazine (2006) and StreetCred magazine. Also, having been on a hiatus from music production since 2012, he is currently working on an EP and tour set for release/commencement in 2020.

Musical style

P's music has a futuristic-yet-relateable sound, via its electronic backdrops and the experimental style that underpins it. Its themes include life, the world, people etc., all of which are complemented by P's eclectic musical taste (e.g. elements of reggae/classical etc.) and humour.
