Joanne Lesley Malone CBE (born November 1963) is a British perfumer, who is the founder of companies Jo Malone London and Jo Loves. She is particularly known for scented candles.

Early life

Malone was born in November 1963,[1] and grew up in a council house in Bexleyheath, South East London.[2] She had severe dyslexia and left school aged 13 to care for her mother, who suffered a stroke.[3]

Career

In 1999, Malone sold Jo Malone London to Estée Lauder for "undisclosed millions".[3] In 2011 she started a new fragrance company, Jo Loves.[4]

Honours

In 2008, Malone received an MBE,[5] then in 2018 a CBE[6] In 2015, she was a "castaway" on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.[7]

Personal life

Malone is married to former surveyor, Gary Willcox, and they have a son together.[8]

In 2003 Malone was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, and after a year of treatment was given the all clear.[9]
