Martinelli's is the brand name of S. Martinelli & Company, a juice company based in Watsonville, California.[1] The company is privately held by descendants of the founders.[2] It's best known for its non-alcoholic sparkling cider and its apple juice.[2][3]
History
The company was founded in the Pajaro Valley in 1868 by two Swiss Martinelli brothers when Stephen bottled and fermented apples of his older brother Louis.[1] He previously had experience making Champaign in France. The recipe won a gold medal at the 1890 California State Fair.[4]
Martinelli's also produces a sparkling hard cider. They also have several other brands of juices, and released a hard cider for a limited time in 2018.
There is a street in Watsonville that bears the Martinelli name.
