He was signed by the New York Yankees as an international free agent in 1997. After two seasons, he was traded to the San Diego Padres for outfielder Kevin Reese.

He again became a free agent after the 2005 season, and signed with the Washington Nationals where he would play 42 games, accumulating 110 at-bats.

He was granted free agency once more after the 2007 season, and signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees. He again became a free agent after the 2008 season.

Throughout his career he has showed impressive speed and solid contact abilities along with a strong arm and good instincts at second base.
