John Gilstrap (1957) is an American novelist and a New York Times bestselling author of the Jonathan Grave thriller series.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Prior to becoming a novelist Gilstrap worked a day job for fifteen years while also working as a volunteer EMT and Firefighter. He earned a master's degree in safety from the University of Southern California, a bachelor's degree in history from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and became an expert on explosives and hazardous waste; eventually speaking at a number of conferences about these topics, as well as on the behavior of fire.[4]

Career

His debut book was titled Nathan's Run,[5] even though this was actually the fourth book he had written and attempted to publish. He would become a New York Times bestselling author and has published more than ten of his Jonathan Grave thrillers. In 2016 his book Against All Enemies won the Thriller Award for best paperback original novel.[6] In 2021 he has a new series, the Victoria Emerson series, debuting with the book Crimson Phoenix to be published by Kensington Press.[7] He presently lives in Fairfax, Virginia and has a YouTube channel where he gives writing advice and insight on the publishing industry.
