Shiva Baby is an American comedy film, directed by Emma Seligman and released in 2020.[1] The film stars Rachel Sennott as Danielle, a young bisexual Jewish woman whose family is sitting shiva following a death, who is unexpectedly forced to juggle her personal interactions when both her ex-girlfriend Maya (Molly Gordon) and her sugar daddy Max (Danny Deferrari) show up.

The film's cast also includes Fred Melamed and Polly Draper as Danielle's parents Joel and Debbie, as well as Dianna Agron, Jackie Hoffman and Deborah Offner.

The film was an expansion of Seligman's 2017 short film of the same title, which she had made as her thesis project while studying film at New York University.[2]

Release

The film was slated to premiere at the 2020 SXSW film festival; following that festival's cancellation in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was instead screened digitally.[3]

It will be screened digitally at the Melbourne International Film Festival in August,[4] and at both the 2020 Deauville American Film Festival[5] and the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival.[6]
