Mohsin Javed Dawar (Template:Lang-ur, Template:Lang-ps) is a Pakistani politician who has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018 and a leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement.
Political career
Dawar is associated with the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement.[2]
Dawar was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as an independent candidate from NA-48 (Tribal Area-IX) in 2018 general election.[3] He received 16,526 votes and defeated Mufti Misbahudin of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).[4]
Controversy
In April 2020 , Mohsin Dawar tried to downplay the seriousness of the coronavirus claiming in a village that corona was "nothing" and only a "way of making money" , remarks which have raised serious concerns as those could easily misguide the people living in the tribal region. Dawar also criticized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for establishing quarantine centres in educational institutions.[5][6] He has also been criticized for making racist remarks against other ethnic groups of Pakistan . In a tweet he said that the policeman who arrested him was a “…a Punjabi with ugly face.”,[7]
