Luke Coddington (born 6 June 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for National League side Chesterfield.
Career
Middlesbrough
Coddington signed for Middlesbrough as a youth at the age of nine.[2] After spending a month on loan at Guisborough Town in 2014,[3] Coddington would be released from his contract in 2016.[2]
Huddersfield Town
After his release, Coddington signed for then Championship club Huddersfield Town as a free agent.[2]
Loan to Wrexham
In 2016, Coddington would go on a month long loan to Wrexham, to cover for injuries sustained to goalkeepers Chris Dunn and Shwan Jalal.[4]
Northampton Town
In 2017, Coddington would join League One club Northampton Town on a free transfer from Huddersfield, signing a two-year deal with the club.[5] He made his debut in a 4–1 home defeat to Peterborough United.[6]
Return to Wrexham
In September 2017, Coddington would rejoin Wrexham, again on a month-long loan.[7] He returned to Northampton in October, playing five games for Wrexham in which the North Wales club went unbeaten.[8]
He was one of 8 players released by Northampton at the end of the 2018–19 season; a further 3 were placed for sale.[9]
Chesterfield F.C.
In June 2019 Coddington signed a two-year contract to play for Chesterfield in the National League for the 2019/202 season.[10]
International career
Coddington has represented England at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level.[11]
Personal life
Coddington's grandfather, John Coddington, was also a professional footballer who played as a defender, who captained Huddersfield Town in the 1960s. His father, Matthew, was also a goalkeeper at Middlesbrough, however never made a first team appearance.[12]
