The Jyotish or Nahak (also Known as Abadhana in village area) is a Hindu caste native to the state of Odisha in India.[1] Their traditional occupation is preparing horoscopes and forecasting auspicious moments for marriage ceremonies and other Hindu rituals. They are also work as assistant priests in Hindu weddings.[2][3]

Social Status

The Jyotishs are claimed their status as Brahmin Varna. However, they fall under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) umbrella in the state of Odisha due to their economical background.[4]
