Controversy

In July 2020, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Steve Erdman gave a speech in Nebraska Legislature in which he told he urged people not to wear masks, championed the unproven treatment of using hydroxychloroquine to combat the virus, and said a vaccine would be ineffective against the virus, which could only be beaten through herd immunity.[3] Erdman's speech was condemned by both Democrats and Republicans in the Legislature.[3]
