Akenehi Hei (c.1878–28 November 1910) was a New Zealand nurse and midwife. She was the first Maori nurse, and qualified as a nurse in 1908.[1] She identified with the Te Whakatōhea and Te Whānau-ā-Apanui iwi. She was born in Te Kaha, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand on c.1878.[2] She was educated at the St Joseph's Māori Girls’ College.[3]
