Alfred J. Francis (July→September 1885 – January→March 1968 (aged 82)) born in Treherbert,[1] was a Welsh professional rugby league footballer of the 1910s, playing at representative level for Great Britain (non-Test matches), and Wales, and at club level for Hull, as a Wing, i.e. number 2 or 5,[2] his death was registered in Holderness.[3]
Playing career
International honours
Alfred Francis won 2 caps for Wales in 1913–1914 while at Hull,[4] and toured with Great Britain on the 1914 Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Challenge Cup final appearances
Alfred Francis played left-Wing, i.e. number 5, and scored a try in Hull's 6-0 victory over Wakefield Trinity in the 1914 Challenge Cup final during the 1913–14 season at Thrum Hall, Halifax.
Genealogical information
Alfred Francis' marriage to Emma Mabel Baxter (birth registered during October→December 1893 in Sculcoates district) was registered during October→December 1915 in Hull district.[5] They had children; Wellesley T. Francis (birth registered[permanent dead link] during October→December 1893 in Hull district), and Megan Francis (birth registered during January→March 1922 in Hull district).
