Angela Tiatia
Angela Tiatia is a New Zealand-Australian artist of Samoan heritage; she works with paint, sculpture, video installation, and performance art.[1] In 2018 she was a finalist for the Archibald Prize.
Tiatia was born in Auckland, New Zealand of Samoan and Australian heritage. Her mother had emigrated to New Zealand from Samoa in the 1960s.[2] Tiatia studied commerce at the University of Auckland, graduating in 2002, and visual arts at Auckland University of Technology, graduating in 2010.[1]
Tiatia's works are held in the collections of Queensland Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Victoria.[1] In 2011 she was a finalist in the Bold Horizons National Art Award, and she has been a finalist for the John Fries Award twice (in 2016 and 2017).[3][4] In 2017 she was a finalist for the Paramor Prize: Art + Innovation and in 2018 she was a finalist for the Archibald Prize.[5]
