Arawe (also known as Arawee, Merkus and Cape Merkus) is an area in Papua New Guinea located on the south coast of New Britain about 100 kilometres (62 mi) from Cape Gloucester. A small harbour known as Arawe Harbour provides an anchorage. The Battle of Arawe was fought for control of the region during World War II.
