Ekengren in 1917

Wilhelm August Ferdinand Ekengren (November 10, 1861 - November 26, 1920) was the Ambassador of Sweden to the United States from 1912 to 1920.[1]

Biography

He was born on November 10, 1861, in Sweden to Wilhelm Alfred Ferdinand Ekengren. He attended Uppsala University and graduated in 1895. He was appointed vice consul to Rouen, France; vice consul at Bordeaux, France; vice consul at Le Havre, France; consul at Lübeck, Germany; and vice consul at New York City. He returned to Sweden in 1903 and worked at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.[1]

He married Laura Wolcott Jackson on March 6, 1909. He was the Ambassador of Sweden to the United States from March 1912 to 1920. During World War I when diplomatic relations with the Austro-Hungarian Empire were severed, he was in charge of relations between Austria-Hungary and the United States. He died on November 26, 1920 in Washington, DC.[1]
