History

In 1958 ten yachtsmen founded the club as "Bahia Yacht Club" in a room leased from the Balboa Bay Club. In its early days the club was made up mostly of racing sailors who were well known in Southern California yacht racing. In 1968, the club joined with the Orange Coast Yacht Club and changed its name to "Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club" because of the recognition commodore Pat Dougan had brought to the club when he purchased the 12-metre class Columbia, a boat that had won the America's Cup with Walter Podolak.[1][2]

The clubs locations was for many years leased from the Irvine Company In 1993, the land and marina was purchased from the Irvine Co. to become one of the first yacht clubs in California to own its land and marina. The Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club facility, dedicated in 1971, has a main dining room and outdoor seating, as well as both wet and dry slips available for members for a monthly fee.

The wet slips can accommodate boats up to 80 feet in length, and the dry slips are for smaller boats up to 25 feet in length. The club is open 5 days a week, plus a full-time dock staff and shore boat.

Americas Cup

The Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club was the first West Coast yacht club to create an Americas Cup Contender when Pat Dougan entered Columbia in the 1964 America’s Cup Trials [3][4] with its crew consisting of Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club members. [5][6]
