Barkam is a town in and the seat of Barkam City, in the northwest of Sichuan province, People's Republic of China.

Climate

Due to its elevation of 2,615 m (8,579 ft), Barkam lies in the transition between a subtropical highland climate (Köppen Cwb) and humid continental climate (Köppen Dwb), with strong monsoonal influences; winters are frosty and summers warm with frequent rain. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from −0.6 °C (30.9 °F) in December and January to 16.1 °C (61.0 °F) in July, while the annual mean is 8.57 °C (47.4 °F). Nearly two-thirds of the annual precipitation of 786 mm (30.9 in) occurs from June to September. There are 2,133 hours of bright sunshine annually, with the percentage of possible sunshine reaching a maximum during winter and a minimum during the summer. Diurnal temperature variation is large, averaging 15.9 °C (28.6 °F) annually.
